“Awww crap.”  I said out loud

I really meant to upload the rest of the pics from my trip over the weekend last night.  One second I was making a spur of the moment trip to the library, the next, I had knocked out 100 pages and it was time for bed.

I picked up “No Country for Old Men” by Cormac McCarthy, and “The Audacity of Hope” by Barack Obama.

Since I normally don’t read much fiction, I’m kinda looking forward to No Country.  On the way to fish the West Branch of the Delaware last month, I mentioned to a friend that I wanted to watch the movie.  He was like, “Dude, you have to see it, the book is really good too!”  So I saw it.  It was good, and now the book is in the on deck circle.

It seems like for the last 3 years or so, everything I’ve read has been fly fishing, or fly tying, or entomolgy related.  Not everything, but pretty much.

Then about 6 months ago I said to myself, “Self, this shit is getting old.”

It was tough at first, trying to figure out what kind of books I wanted to start reading.   So I just kinda walked around the library and waited for something to catch my eye.  Fast forward to today and I can’t read fast enough to keep up with the number of books on my list.

So I thought today, in all my slackerdom, would be a good day to ask for some blog recommendations- the only catch is they can’t be fly fishing related- cause I don’t know where to start.

Here’s a panoramic view of where my son and I should be panting standing around lunchtime tomorrow-

A little Voodoo Child

Fodder

I’m pumped, and judging by the fact that the boy couldn’t sleep last night, I think he is too. We’re pretty much packed and ready to go. A huge shout out to the Mrs. for packing our clothes and food while I sat on the computer and fiddled with student loan stuff for a couple hours last night. I’ve just gotta stop at the school and pay my bill after work and I’ll officially be a college student again. Then it’s a quick stop at home to throw all of our gear in the car and we’ll be hitting the road.

I remembered that great article idea I had, it’s gonna have to wait till Monday though cause there’s much to do. So I thought I’d note a couple things before I leave y’all alone for the weekend.

A New Ad

Yeah, there’s actually a few new ads here and there on the site. The first I’d like to talk about, is the one that can only be seen on the homepage that I won’t be making any money from.

You might remember Angler’s Choice Flies from the Interview I did with Mike Schmidt last Winter. Why would I offer Mike free advertising you ask?

Quite frankly, he gets to go fishing more than me and I’m gonna put a stop to it…

Seriously though, Mike is the first tyer I’ve offered a spot to for what I’m calling a Crusade to Promote Domestic Fly Tyers. The requirements for this program are simple- I have to have field tested the tyer’s flies, and been happy with their durability, construction, and performance.

So before you place that next fly order from Cabelas or Orvis, stop over to Mike’s Site by clicking the picture above, or the ad on the homepage, and see if he’s got what you’re looking for. Remember too, just cause you don’t see it on his site, doesn’t mean he can’t whip a few up for ya. I think you’ll find working with Mike on a custom order will be the highlight of your fly buying career.

Keep an eye out for other Day Tripper Approved tyers to be added to this program soon, as well as a couple rod builders.

Be Entertained

If you look up on the upper right side of the page, you’ll see an ad for Fly Fishing & Tying DVDs. This one I do get paid for, but only if you buy something. Nothing better to get you through the winter tying season than a few good fly fishing or tying movies playing in the background.

These are available from the Hatches Magazine Store, run by Will Mullis. I haven’t ordered anything from this store yet, but I can assure you from past business transactions with Will, that you’ll get what you ordered fast, with great service along the way.

A couple years ago I bought 5 Bugger Barn fly boxes from Will. One was slightly damaged from the factory, so I let Will know. Within minutes, I got a response from Will telling me to send the fly box back to him, and he’d replace it at no charge to myself.

Speaking of the man who doesn’t sleep

I’ve also got another ad from Hatches Magazine on the fly patterns page of this site-

This is another one of those ads I don’t get paid for unless you buy something.

Don’t tell the Editor, but this is one I’d run for free- it’s for Hatches Magazine. A yearly magazine that is, in my opinion and many others’, the best fly tying publication being put out today. If you haven’t already subscribed, you owe it to yourself to. Hatches features content for both the novice, and the experienced tyer. In depth instructions, history, and best of all, stunning photography.

The Fall ‘08 issue is due to drop very soon, and if you haven’t already, get the Fall ‘07 issue before it’s gone.

See you on the mountain…
